Lee’s history with tennis started at
the age of four. At the time, his family resided in Bangkok, and he
was fortunate to have a former national champion of Thailand as his
first coach. At eight, he was introduced to the more Western
approach to tennis (predominantly topspin as opposed to flat and
slice) when his father was relocated to Akron. Lee spent three years
in Stow, Ohio before his father retired and moved the family to Iowa
in 1991.
At the age of 15, Lee began coaching tennis for the National Junior
Tennis League (NJTL) in Waterloo, Iowa. After spending four summers
as an instructor and two summers as program director for NJTL, Lee
made the transition to a club setting. Lee came back to Northeast
Ohio in the summer of 1998 to work for a former coach at Western
Reserve Racquet Club. After taking time off coaching to focus on his
college education, Lee returned to coaching, and Northeast Ohio,
last May. Lee worked at the North Olmsted Recreation Center until
accepting his current position in April 2003.
Lee graduated from undergraduate in 2000 with highest honors from
the University of Northern Iowa. Having spent much of his childhood
living and traveling abroad, Lee has always been interested in
learning about different places and cultures. Therefore, he focused
both his B.A. and his M.A., from the University of Georgia (2002),
on the field of geography. Lee and his British wife, Claire, were
married in a 15th century residential castle in England in June of
2002. Lee and Claire reside practically next door to the club, along
with their two kittens, which are aptly named Sugar and Spice. |
